Four BCS transition year students traveled to Loreto College St. Stephen's Green on Monday the 8th of January 2018 to participate in the Oxford debate. The Oxford debate follows the rules of the British Parliamentary style. The motions on the night were: 'THW would legalise performance enhancing drugs' and 'THW would ban homeschooling'. Lots of learning and fun was had on the night.
On Tuesday evening, Darragh, John, Jane and Hana played hosts to Colaise Ui Mhuire Dunleer. BCS students were proposing the motion that young people are indifferent to the problems of the developing world. BCS students gave a fine performance and argued their points well but unfortunately the motion was defeated. A good night was had by all!
On Monday evening, Darragh, John, Jane and Hana traveled to Trim to Scoil Mhuire in order to oppose the motion 'In order to eradicate world hunger, the world needs to embrace GMO's'. BCS students gave a fine performance and argued their points well but they faced stiff competition in the students from Scoil Mhuire and the motion was carried. This was Darragh, John, Jane and Hana's first debate ever and both of their teachers were very proud of their achievements. A good night was had by all and we hope to enjoy many more!
